GURPS Year In Review

With the new year starting a mere three weeks from when I'm writing this, SJ Games is between its fall and winter breaks. We rarely see new releases or major progress on projects during this stretch, and I know for a fact that there will nothing for GURPS in December. On the other hand, I do have a spare moment in which to sum up 2025.

The year batted .500 for monthly releases, bringing us six new supplements:

How to Be a GURPS GM: ImprovisingHow to Be a GURPS GM: Counting HeadsGURPS Magical Styles: Traditional StylesGURPS Hot Spots: Istanbul, 1453-1703 A.D.GURPS Infinite Worlds: GotterdammerungGURPS Gun Stats

As I explained in September, we are acutely aware of the slow pace that represents. Unfortunately, it was a hectic year for the entire company, with economic woes almost from the start, Steve moving, Meredith stepping down, and the European Accessibility Act deadline making extra work. On top of that, production and administrative staff had to devote most of their attention to big projects for other product lines. Finally, GURPS's sole full-timer, me – already on 3/4 time (remember: economic woes) – was tapped to work on what was a Sekrit Projekt from June through September, which has since been revealed to be the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised (a March 2026 release). Thank you for your patience!

We aim to do better in 2026. To that end, we have created a schedule that we feel confident about. Dates are subject to change . . . but nine items are far enough along that there should be no major hitches, and we have another three in reserve in case the universe laughs at us. That means 9-12 new releases:

Reserve: GURPS Armor Design, GURPS Fantasy Folk: Fishfolk, and a Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game adventure.
* These two are large projects with special needs, and so the most likely to move.

My main task in 2026 will be to edit manuscripts for 2027 . . . but if the universe really laughs at us, I may have to rush an edit to replace something above. The editorial queue is currently:

  1. GURPS Banestorm: Whispers of Tohrent
  2. GURPS Locations: Institute of Metaphysics Library
  3. GURPS Infinite Worlds: Psionics
  4. GURPS Hot Spots: Victorian London
  5. How to Be a GURPS GM: Handling Tech

Yes, there are a lot of date and title reveals up there, including two items I've never mentioned even in vague terms in the monthly GURPS News or weekly updates on my DreamWidth. Consider those a little gift for the holidays!
