Clearing The Air

The old atmospheric quality in recent days hasn't been great, what with pollen, allergens, world being on fire, etc. I recently tried a project I first heard about a few years ago (during the height of COVID): a Corsi-Rosenthal Box.

The idea is quite simple: Take four large air filters (the kind you'd put in your heating or AC unit), arrange them into a "box" (to use a technical term), then use a bog-standard old-fashioned box fan on top to force air through the filters.

Unlike many "this is so easy" at-home projects, this one did turn out to be as easy as I'd hoped, without so much as an adhesive bandage needed to mop up errant hemoglobin. The resultant filtration system has improved the air quality of my office considerably (based on the air-quality sensor built into my other, more-expensive-yet-less-effective air purifier).

Those who are curious can check out the Wikipedia page for a general overview. The instructions are online at the Corsi-Rosenthal Foundation, including various options and insight.
