A Long Time Ago, In A California Convention Far Away
Over on Facebook, Jackie Estrada (who's led a pretty awesome comic-convention and industry life, per Wikipedia) posted an image of the exhibit-room map for the 1987 Comic Book Expo. It features 62 identically sized booths.
This little shindig was in San Diego. Per Jackie and Wikipedia (again), this Expo was an industry-only trade fair for publishers, distributors, and retailers, and it was part of the San Diego Comic Con . . . which itself was exploding in popularity.
Why am I noting all this? Well, because #36 on that map is none other than Steve Jackson Games . . . nestled between Comic Images (probably the hardest company name imaginable to Google-research nowadays) and the double-sized Books Nippan booth (I found their catalog on Archive.org – also from 1987).
Now, I could poke around the (virtual) office and see if anyone has any memories of this specific convention . . . but, honestly, everyone's pretty busy. Besides, I thought it'd be more fun to just toss this out into the world and see what comes back.
So . . . were you at this expo? Did you stop by our booth? (Were we nice?) Do you happen to have any pics of the trade fair? Help me, if you are so inclined, to tamp down my four-decade FOMO and share your insight on the forums or via email!
