Crowdfunding Focus: Cinematic Obsessions

Subversive Sci-Fi Evolution

Subversive Sci-Fi Evolution

I do a lot of writing for Steve Jackson Games, including – um – these very words you're reading. In my free time, I also do more writing. Currently, I'm part of a crowdfund campaign for a new book of movie essays called Cinematic Obsessions.

To borrow from its subtitle, it offers "Reflections on Cult Movies That Broke the Rules." In my case, I've written about the beloved cult classic The Wicker Man. Errr, the 2006 version, that is . . . the one with Nicolas Cage and bees. Yes, I'm serious.

This latest installment follows in the footsteps of past volumes, including 2024's Transgressive Horror Resurrected and 2025's Subversive Sci-Fi Evolution (both of which also feature me). There are also a bunch of other essays that are part of Cinematic Obsessions I'm looking forward to reading – including adored-by-SJ-Games-fans scribe Kenneth Hite, who's writing about 1985's Re-Animator.

Please consider helping make the project happen, unleash these essays upon the world, and become part of the cinematic cult that is Ghost Show Press.

P.S. If you're curious to read an excellent essay about the original 1973 version of The Wicker Man – written by Kenneth Hite, no less – I humbly suggest Fantastic Flops . . . which you can also get as part of the current campaign.
