A Line Editor's Intro To Munchkin
Who are you?
My name's William Austin Schoonover and some people call me Oz. I've been a fan of games my entire life and this is my 20th year working in the game industry. I like all kinds of games, but spend most of my time playing with and painting miniatures. At Steve Jackson Games I'm the Munchkin Line Editor and do a couple of other jobs.
Who's the target audience for Munchkin?
Munchkin is for everyone! Casual players who just want a silly game to play while they hang out will enjoy it, but it's also fun for players who want to take it more seriously and play a cutthroat game with a tense ending.
What makes Munchkin awesome?
The point above is one of the most awesome things about Munchkin, but it's wide appeal isn't the only thing great about it. Munchkin also allows you to explore your favorite genre in a silly game. If you want to play a Cthulhu or Warhammer themed game that lets your group make the worst puns and remix the fundamentals of the setting as cards come out of the deck in the wildest combos, Munchkin is the game for you.
What's a good way for someone new to Munchkin to start?
The new second edition starter set for Munchkin is the best way to start playing the game. We've taken player feedback for the last 25 years and polished the mechanics to keep all the best parts of Munchkin and polish any of the elements that made the game hard for new players to grasp.
Anything else you'd like folks to know about Munchkin?
The last thing I want to mention is an assurance to any long time fans that second edition will eventually get to all of your favorites. However, it took us 25 years to get to this point, so we won't be doing updated versions of everything overnight. We'll be bringing some sets into second edition right away, but we're also continuing to introduce new things to Munchkin. The limitations of this process is one of the reasons we kept second edition compatible with all the existing cards. If there is a Munchkin set you love and you want to play it using the second edition rules adjustments you can do that now, just download the second edition rules and upgrade guides here.
