Throwing Toon Back To 1928

Steamboat Willie Poster from 1928

Have you heard that Walt Disney and Ube Iwerks' Steamboat Willie, the public debut of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, is now public domain? Because it sure is!

Since November 18, 1928, these characters have brought happiness to hundreds of millions of fans around the world with their crazy antics. That makes the film a fantastic choice to use as a jumping point for Toon Second Edition! Steamboat Willie thrilled audiences with its synchronized sound, whimsical characters, and cartoon hijinks that made it the gold standard for early animation. Mickey's arms and torso stretched to ridiculous lengths. After being shoved down the stairs by Pete, he slipped on a bar of soap, became airborne, and landed in a bucket. He played a makeshift drum with his tail and used a cow's teeth like a glockenspiel. The film concludes with him cutting up a huge potato using an oversized sword.

If this zaniness isn't the perfect inspiration for a rousing game of Toon, then I don't know what is!

Anyone who missed the main campaign for Toon Second Edition can still make a late pledge on BackerKit.

And don't forget to whistle along to the short film's theme song! I promise it'll be in your head for many, many days.
